RALEIGH—Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, released the following statement following Thomas Wright’s conviction on three counts of fraud.

“There was no joy in what was done in a Wake County Superior Court today, however there was justice.  Thomas Wright’s actions display callousness toward the rule of law and complete disregard for the people he was elected to serve.  However, we know that Mr. Wright has not been alone in his disrespect for public service.  He is just the latest Democrat, once heralded as a rising star, to face the shame of public contempt stemming from taking advantage of a position of power.  Democrats have spent far too much time in courtrooms on the wrong side of justice instead of working for the interests of those who elected them.  The fact that Mr. Wright used his position in the General Assembly to commit fraud is unacceptable.  The fact that he did so by pocketing funds intended to be used for the benefit of the people of North Carolina is among the most egregious and reprehensible betrayals of the public trust.  With the many examples of Democrat politicians venturing outside the law, we know this is not an isolated incident.  This is a problem of entrenched Democrat power in Raleigh.  Democrats and Republicans must work together to end the culture of corruption in Raleigh and restore honest and open government to our state.”
