As President, McCain will help end judicial activism
RALEIGH--“If men were angels, no government would be necessary. . . In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” James Madison, The Federalist #51
Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, made the following statement regarding Senator John McCain’s speech at Wake Forest University today:
“John McCain understands the dangers of judicial activism that jeopardize our most familiar institutions as well as the rule of law and the Constitution itself. The federal government was divided into three branches so that no one person or entity would hold such exclusive power as to dominate all others. In recent years, unfortunately, we have seen judges appointed to the bench who have forgotten that their proper role is to interpret the law and not make it. This has weakened the integrity of the judicial branch as a whole and kept important matters of policy from being decided democratically by the people. Senator McCain believes that judges nominated to the bench must be men and women of wisdom and experience who understand the proper role of the judiciary and the limits of its power. One of the most important duties of the next President will be to nominate hundreds of judges for the federal bench. It is critical that we elect a President that will nominate judges that know the difference between personal preference and the dictates of the Constitution.”
