NCGOP: MUKASEY IDEAL CHOICE AS NEXT ATTORNEY GENERAL

RALEIGH—Following the announcement by President Bush of his nomination of Judge Michael Mukasey as Attorney General, Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, made the following statement:

“Judge Michael Mukasey is an ideal selection by President Bush to serve as the nation’s 81st Attorney General.  The President has wisely selected a man who has earned a reputation for honesty and integrity while serving admirably as a federal prosecutor and judge.  Judge Mukasey’s vast experience working on issues of national security makes him uniquely qualified to head the Justice Department at this important time in the history of our country.  In Judge Mukasey, President Bush has nominated exactly the kind of well-qualified, widely respected person that he promised.  Judge Mukasey is known on both sides of the aisle as a man who will ensure the fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.  I urge Democrats to work with Republicans to ensure that Judge Mukasey is treated to a swift and fair confirmation process.”
