HEATH SHULER CAPTIVE TO RANGEL AND TAX HIKES
“Mother of All Tax Hikes” Comes from Shuler Supporter

RALEIGH—Heath Shuler has made some new friends since going to Washington.  One of those friends is Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), powerful Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, who has given $14,000 in campaign contributions to Shuler since 2005.  Now, Rangel is the man behind the Democrats’ new trillion dollar “Mother of All Tax Hikes.”  The new plan is so large that it will have to be paid off with a plethora of tax raises and the closing of so-called tax “loopholes” that are benefiting hard-working North Carolinians.  However, tax hikes are not a novelty coming from Democrats in Washington.  Since taking power ten months ago, the Democrat leadership has passed legislation to raise taxes by more than $100 billion dollars, or an average of $10 billion in new taxes per month. 

Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party made the following statement:

“Unfortunately, the ‘Mother of All Tax Hikes’ comes as no surprise to me.  This is par for the course for Democrats and their liberal agenda.  Send Democrats to Washington and they do two things well: they tax and they spend.  We have seen that vicious cycle before and it is time to put an end to it.  If Heath Shuler claims to be a ‘conservative,’ then he should be working to advance a tax policy favorable to the people and businesses of Western North Carolina.  He should not be taking the hard-earned money out of our pockets while lining his own with liberal Democrat money.  Which will it be Rep. Shuler?  Will you protect the interests of the people of Western North Carolina or will you cozy up to the liberal elites in your party and their tax-happy agenda?”
